John Woo Presents: Stranglehold

Prior to Midway Amusement Games in Chicago, IL shutting down in 2008, I was a Technical Designer II officially, but I was still designing levels for a few missions. This was my first gig into the game industry, and I still speak with many of my ex-Midway colleagues, so this team really loved each other. Stranglehold also had the opportunity to be one of the first games to release using Unreal 3. Stranglehold’s use of destructible environments is still regarded to this day as a shining example, as many engineers later worked on Bioshock or joined Epic Tools Team directly.

TAI-O Village

Unreal Engine 3

Level 2 in the game involved Inspector Tequila going to the remote village of Tai-O to destroy a drug-trafficking base. I was responsible for several areas of level design, as well as enemy encounters throughout the entire mission, and the entirety of the helicopter ride and blowing up the main boats.

The Mega

Unreal Engine 3

Level 3 in the game involved Inspector Tequila infiltrating the Hong Kong Mega, a giant floating restaurant. I worked on the level design for the majority of areas, as well as the enemy encounters and the boss-fight.
